Proverbs 2

PROVERBS 2

"My son, if you will receive my words
And treasure my commandments within you,
Make your ear attentive to wisdom,
Incline your heart to understanding;
For if you cry for discernment, Lift your voice for understanding;
If you seek her as silver
And search for her as for hidden treasures.
Then you will discern the fear of the LORD
And discover the knowledge of God."
(vs 1-5)

"If you receive My words, and treasure My commandments". "If you seek for discernment and understanding as for hidden treasures." True wisdom and knowledge only comes as we obey the Lord, and as we seek and ask for it. When Solomon took over the throne of his father David, he prayed and asked God to grant him wisdom and knowledge. This pleased God, who responded -

"God said to Solomon, "Since this is your heart’s desire and you have not asked for wealth, riches or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king, therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, riches and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have." - 2 Chron 1:11-12

James tells us - "if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him." - James 1:5

And Jesus, Himself declared - "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened." - Matt 7:7-8

"For the LORD gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
He is a shield to those who walk in integrity,
Guarding the paths of justice,
And He preserves the way of His godly ones."
(vs 6-8)

Again we read of the required obedience. The promises are to those who behave and walk in ways that please the Lord. The results of being upright and walking in integrity, are discernment, wisdom and knowledge.

"Then you will discern righteousness and justice
And equity and every good course.
For wisdom will enter your heart
And knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;
Discretion will guard you, Understanding will watch over you,
To deliver you from the way of evil,
From the man who speaks perverse things;
From those who leave the paths of uprightness
To walk in the ways of darkness."
(vs 9-13)

Friends, may we desire the wisdom and understanding and Truth that dwells only in the Lord Jesus (Col 2:3). For with these we can clearly see the paths of righteousness, and receive deliverance from the way of evil. May we be as that man who sold all he had to obtain those treasures of the Kingdom (Matt 13:44).

God’s peace to you & yours,

Michael
